The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) will take place at Lord’s, London, from June 11 to June 15, 2025. A reserve day has also been set for June 16, should it be necessary.
This will be the third edition of the WTC final hosted in England. The inaugural final in 2021 saw New Zealand defeat India in Southampton, while the second was held at The Oval in 2023, where Australia triumphed over India.
In the current WTC standings, India holds the top spot, with Australia close behind in second. The top two teams in the Test cricket rankings over a two-year period qualify for the championship final.
Australian captain Pat Cummins, leading the defending champions, highlighted the importance of the WTC title, stating, "Winning the World Test Championship has been a major goal for this team. It’s the culmination of consistent effort over two years, and we hope to be there again. There's still plenty of cricket to be played before then, and we’re eager to defend our title."
Lord’s will be hosting the WTC final for the first time, adding to its historic significance. Guy Lavender, Chief Executive and Secretary of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), expressed his excitement, remarking, "Test match days at Lord's are always special, and to host the two best Test sides in the world for this championship will be an unforgettable cricketing experience."
