The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have reportedly agreed to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) demand for a hybrid hosting model for the 2025 Champions Trophy. This arrangement will see India playing all their matches in Dubai, while other games are held in Pakistan.
This consensus was reached during informal discussions in Dubai involving ICC chairman Jay Shah and member boards, including Pakistan. According to sources, the hybrid model ensures a balanced solution for all stakeholders, paving the way for the tournament’s smooth execution.
The PCB’s initial resistance to this model, which stemmed from concerns about hosting rights, eventually gave way after negotiations. In return, PCB requested a reciprocal arrangement for ICC tournaments in India until 2027. As per the agreement, Pakistan will play their matches in neutral venues for upcoming ICC events hosted by India, including the 2025 Women’s World Cup and the 2026 T20 World Cup.
This compromise followed prolonged deliberations, which delayed the release of the Champions Trophy schedule. Broadcasters like Star Sports, who were awaiting clarity, are now anticipating an announcement soon.
PCB head Mohsin Naqvi emphasised the importance of cricket’s integrity during the discussions, advocating for solutions respectful to all parties. Discussions on compensation for PCB regarding the hybrid model are ongoing.
With these developments, the cricketing fraternity looks forward to resolving logistical challenges and focusing on the sport itself, ensuring a successful tournament.
