Hilton Moreeng has been named the new head coach for both the USA senior and Under-19 women's cricket teams, succeeding Shivnarine Chanderpaul, whose contract ended in 2023.
Moreeng previously served as the head coach for South Africa's women's team for over 11 years, concluding his tenure in March this year. During his leadership, South Africa reached two ODI World Cup semi-finals, two T20 World Cup semi-finals, and made history by becoming the first senior national side to reach a World Cup final, in the 2023 T20 World Cup held at home.
Expressing his excitement, Moreeng stated that he looks forward to working with both current and upcoming players in USA Cricket. His objective is to systematically build a competitive squad capable of challenging the best in women's cricket globally. He emphasised the aim to cultivate a culture of excellence and success within USA Cricket, aiming for a prosperous future on the international stage.
Julia Price, a former Australia international, served as head coach from 2019 to 2022 before Chanderpaul's tenure.
USA Cricket chairman, Venu Pisike, highlighted that Coach Hilton brings extensive experience and a proven track record, having significantly contributed to the transformation of South African women's cricket. With the Olympics on the horizon in four years, Pisike believes Moreeng's diverse experiences and understanding of the challenges faced by emerging cricket nations make him an ideal fit for USA Cricket's program.
Moreeng's initial task will involve preparing the team for the 2025 U-19 Women's T20 World Cup.
