GT20 Canada 2024: Montreal Tigers and Bangla Tigers Secure Wins in Crucial Matches

On Tuesday, July 30, the eighth and ninth matches of the Global T20 Canada 2024 featured clashes between Toronto Nationals and Bangla Tigers Mississauga, and Brampton Wolves against Montreal Tigers.

Montreal Tigers maintained their top spot on the points table after defeating Brampton Wolves, boasting a net run rate of +1.417. Despite Toronto Nationals' second loss in four matches, they held onto the second position with four points and a marginally positive NRR of +0.035.

Bangla Tigers Mississauga climbed from fifth to third place following their second consecutive victory, this time against the Toronto Nationals. Surrey Jaguars and Brampton Wolves occupied the next two positions, each with two points, while Mississauga, winless in three games, remained at the bottom.

In the first match on Tuesday, Bangla Tigers Mississauga batted first, setting a target of 169 for the Toronto Nationals. David Wiese was the top scorer with an unbeaten 38 off 17 balls, supported by Muhammad Waseem's 27 and contributions of 24 runs each from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and captain Shakib Al Hasan. Toronto's bowlers, Saad Bin Zafar and Romario Shepherd, each took two wickets, while the rest of the bowlers, excluding Roston Chase, took one apiece.

In their chase, the Toronto Nationals' top order collapsed early. Nicholas Kirton played a standout innings, scoring 74 runs off 54 balls with 11 boundaries, but lacked support from his teammates, resulting in a narrow two-run defeat. Ali Khan took two wickets for the Bangla Tigers, with other bowlers chipping in except Dillon Heyliger, who went without a wicket.

The second match saw Montreal Tigers post 166/7, with Dilpreet Bajwa scoring a remarkable century from 55 balls, including 16 boundaries. Additional contributions came from Parveen Kumar (18), Sherfane Rutherford (15), and Azmatullah Omarzai (13). Andrew Tye led the Brampton Wolves' bowling with three wickets, while Jack Jarvis, Beau Webster, Akhil Kumar, and Abhijai Mansingh each took one.

In response, Brampton Wolves were bowled out for 124 in 18.5 overs, with Omarzai claiming four wickets and Kaleem Sana and Zahoor Khan taking two each. George Munsey was the top scorer for the Wolves with 54 runs, followed by Kobe Herft (22) and Aaron Johnson (10), while the remaining batsmen were dismissed cheaply.
