Can the Mumbai Indians still make it through to the play-offs?

Mumbai Indians can still make the play-offs. Although Sunrisers Hyderabad's win over Rajasthan Royals made their task more difficult, Mumbai can still finish in the top four with 14 points.

As things stand, it's still possible for MI to finish third on 14 points if RR and Kolkata Knight Riders win most of their matches and take the top two spots. For example, if Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers lose all their remaining matches except the one they play on May 8, then the winner of that match will finish on 14 points, tied for third with MI if they win their last four matches. It's even possible that the six remaining teams could all finish on 12 points.

What if Mumbai crash out against KKR?

If MI loses to KKR and the other games follow the above pattern of results, then MI will be one of seven teams tied on 12 points and fighting for one spot. That means they're mathematically still in contention even if they lose on Friday.

And what looks to happen to RCB? Are they still in contention?

With six points from 10 games, RCB is in the same position as MI. The only difference is that they are on a two-match winning streak, while MI has lost three in a row. Fourteen points could keep them in contention, but at this stage even 12 gives them a mathematical chance.

Rajasthan Royals have almost qualified, haven't they?

Well, not quite. Of course, with 16 points from 10 games, they're in the best position of all the teams. But if they lose their remaining four games, it's possible that four teams - KKR, SRH, LSG and Chennai Super Kings - could finish on 18 or more points. Even if they win one, RR could still be one of five teams with 18 or more points.

So, with 50 matches played in the 2024 IPL, no team has qualified for the playoffs and no team is out of the running.
