BCB Forms Committee to Update Constitution Amid NSC Guidance

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has set up a committee to review and amend its constitution, aiming to ensure that the Board remains effective and adaptable to current demands. This decision was made during the 15th meeting of the BCB Board of Directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, following directives from the National Sports Council (NSC). The NSC had previously sent letters requesting that BCB clarify its current state and establish a sub-committee for constitutional reform.

The NSC’s letter highlighted that a well-designed, inclusive constitution is essential for fostering accountability and promoting good governance within sports organizations. The council expressed confidence that BCB would support its mission to create such an environment, noting that while the NSC generally doesn’t interfere in BCB’s operations, it remains aligned with the ICC’s vision and encourages positive developments in the BCB.

In response, the BCB announced the formation of the Constitution Amendment Committee, with BCB director Nazmul Abedin appointed as the committee head. This committee will review the current constitution, pinpoint areas needing updates, and suggest changes that reflect the Board’s strategic objectives and evolving needs.

Additionally, the NSC requested information on director vacancies resulting from absences at three consecutive meetings, in line with clause 15.2 of the BCB constitution, and asked about steps taken to fill these roles. The BCB reported that it accepted resignations from directors A.M. Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Khaled Mahmud, and Md. Enayet Husain Siraj, and declared the positions of 11 other directors vacant due to non-attendance.

These directors include former BCB president Nazmul Hasan and others such as Manzur Kader, A.J.M. Nasir Uddin, Sk. Sohel, and Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, who served during a decade-long term led by Nazmul Hasan before Faruque Ahmed’s recent leadership.

Additionally, the BCB confirmed that the 11th season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 will begin on December 30, 2024, concluding with the final on February 7, 2025.
