Following the success of the inaugural Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup last year, another significant tournament has been added to the women’s junior cricket calendar. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has unveiled plans for the Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup, a biennial competition aimed at preparing Asian teams for the Under-19 World Cup.
The ACC made the announcement during its executive board meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
Sources from ESPNcricinfo suggest that the first edition of the tournament is set to take place in mid-December 2024, ahead of the Under-19 T20 World Cup scheduled for January-February 2025 in Malaysia. However, details regarding the venue and the participating teams for the Asia Cup have yet to be confirmed.
ACC president Jay Shah hailed the new tournament as a significant milestone for cricket in Asia. Shah stated that the introduction of the Women’s U-19 Asia Cup is a crucial step in providing young female cricketers with a platform to develop their skills and display their talent.
“This initiative strengthens the future of women’s cricket in Asia,” Shah highlighted, adding that the decisions made will leave a lasting impact not only in member nations but also across the global cricketing community.
