A glimpse of the future, Starc v Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk faced just seven balls on Monday night and five of the seven were attempted yorkers, two of which were full tosses. The other two were struck for hard length. The bulk of those deliveries came from Mitchell Starc, but Vaibhav Arora followed the same plan with his two deliveries. This wasn't two fast bowlers looking for swing with the new ball from a full, good length. This was death bowling in the powerplay, and as T20 batting moves more towards an all-out attack, we're likely to see a lot more of it in the future.

Earlier in the day, Fraser-McGurk hit a four and a six and picked out a deep square leg while looking to flick Starc for another six.

By then, DC had lost Prithvi Shaw, who had started ominously with three fours off Starc in the first three balls of the innings. He fell harmlessly, trapping Arora down the leg-side.

Arora took another wicket with a peach that straightened off the deck and hit the top of Shai Hope's off stump. It was a ball that suggested there would be grip for the spinners, and so it proved.
